Course details
This course prepares you to be an assistant teacher to support teachers in childcare centres in providing a high quality early childhood care programme for the children. The course helps candidates:
- Integrate knowledge about the development of children and the importance of positive relationships with the parents for support.
- Create a healthy and stimulating environment for learning
- Classroom management and supervision of children
Course Outline
- Module 1: Child Development and Guidance (30 hours): Trainees will learn about children’s developmental stages from 0 to 8 years old and the provision of age-appropriate programmes and learning environments for the development of young children.
- Module 2: Creative Approaches To Caring and Learning (35 hours): Understand the importance of play in young children’s curriculum and engaging young children in reading stories, songs, art and craft. Learn to prepare and set up learning environment for daily activities.
- Module 3: Safety Health & Nutrition (25 hours): Learn basic understanding of the routine care, transitions and emergencies. Know the different types of common illnesses that occur in the lives of young children.
- Module 4: Professional Development (20 hours): Understand the roles and responsibilities of a childcare assistant and the management of effective communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children. This module also highlights the basic awareness of the Code of Ethics and the Convention of the Rights of the Child.
- Module 5: Working With Families (10 hours): The home environment is very important in the development and growth of young children. Learn how to nurture positive working relationships with families to promote children’s development.
- Module 6: Supervised Practicum (60 hours): This module provides you with the opportunity to practice the skills and techniques learnt during the course. You will be able to observe lessons in a childcare centre and put to use the skills taught during the course. Practicum is an essential and integrated element of the learning experience.
Will I recieve a certificate of completion?
Candidates who complete the course and meet all requirements of the course will be awarded with the “Fundamentals Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Development” that is accredited by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)
Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum Secondary 2 education or its equivalent.
