The Foundation in Academic Studies is designed to provide students a broad overview of career options in Accounting, Business, Information Technology (IT) and Hospitality. It aims to provide an access point for students requiring more information and in depth experience before deciding on a particular field to study further.
The programme meets the demand for short courses with sufficient depth and breadth to enable beginners to flavour different career requirements before investing more time and money into the programme.
Learning Outcome
The Foundation in Academic Studies enables students to develop a holistic understanding in Accounting, Business, Information Technology (IT) and Hospitality. Students will be encouraged to apply the knowledge learned to everyday lives and choose a programme of study of their choice that will enhance their career prospects. The programme also provides an access point for students requiring more information before deciding on a particular field to study.
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age: 16 years
- Minimum 9 years of basic education in the English Medium
Assessment Method
Course Work and Written Examinations.
Course Modules
Accounting Principles
- This module is designed explore the financial and accounting aspects and its application the real world.
- The module will look at the scope of accounting information needs of management and the use by managers, for both long and short-term decision making.
On successful completion of this course, the student should be able:
- understand double entry book-keeping
- prepare trial balance
- prepare Cash Book and Petty Cash Book
Fundamentals of Business Management
- This module is designed cover the basic concepts of business administration. It enables the student understand and apply the basic managerial principles the real situation.
On successful completion of this course, the student should be able:
- discuss the importance of organisation structure
- understand the importance of Motivation manage the human resources
- understand the managerial role and decision-making
Introduction Hospitality Industry
This module is designed understand the hospitality environment appreciating the scope of the operations and facilities which shapes the hospitality industry as whole.
On successful completion of this course, the student should be able:
- Describe and explain the scope of the hospitality industry
- Understand the issues and influences affecting the hospitality industry
- Examine the role of Front Office, Housekeeping and Food and Beverage department
- Understand the importance of quality management
Professional Skills
This module is designed train and equip students with MS Office skills, the concept of Internet and professional skills for personal development.
On successful completion of this course, the student should be able:
- gain practical knowledge on MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint
- Understand the concepts of Internet
- Understand the importance of Personal Grooming & Etiquette
- Understand the importance of communication and presentation skills
