Course details

The purpose of this programme is to equip you with the skills, knowledge and competence required to work under supervision and independently in a range of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) settings and/or to progress to higher education and training.

Mandatory Modules

(Learners must complete all 6 Modules)

  • Child Health & Well Being
  • Child Development
  • Early Childhood Education & Play
  • Early Care & Education Practice
  • Communications
  • Work Experience

 Elective Modules

(Learners must complete 2 of the following Modules)

  • Social Studies
  • School Age Childcare
  • Special Needs Assisting
  • Human Growth & Development
  • Chlidren With Additional Needs 

Entry Requirements

Learners that have completed the Leaving Certificate or a Level 4 certificate or have relevant life or work experience are eligible to participate on this programme. Competence in written and spoken English essential along with computer literacy

Assessment Method

Continuous Assessment including work-based assignments, projects, skills demonstrations and learner records. Three in-house exams are required to be completed in order to receive your major award.

Work Experience

You are required to arrange and complete a minimum of 100 hours work experience during the course and are expected to carry out elements of your assign- ments in the workplace.
