    The aim of the module is to provide students with an opportunity to develop an understanding of ethical perspectives and issues relevant to their professional practice. At the end of the module, students will be able to demonstrate an awareness of the distinctiveness of major historical and contemporary ethical theories and relate these to the working environment. A central theme in the module will be the relationship between ethical theory and practice. As part of this, particular emphasis will be placed on on-going reflection on the complexity of ethical decision-making in professional situations. Students will be invited to explore their own ethical positions in the light of new learning.

    Blended Learning (elearning and College attendance)

    Course work & participation in on-line discussions.
    Examples of coursework include essays; literature reviews; development of posters; portfolios; group presentations

    Entry Requirements:

    Applicants will normally:

    • Be a registered nurse on the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

    OR

    • Be registered on the appropriate professional register.

    AND

    • Be currently employed in health care either in: clinical practice/management/ research /education. Some modules may only be undertaken while working in a specific related area. This is specified in module descriptions.
