Course details

This is our core course and it will help you to communicate effectively in everyday situations and advance your overall level of English. It focuses on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; extending vocabulary and applying grammar.

Beginner (A-A1)

This integrated course includes the study of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and practical English. At the end of each unit there is a look back section, which gives the students a chance to go back over the previous unit and test themselves. There are progress tests at regular intervals in the course as well as mid-course and end of course tests. Course goals Students will: Improve all their skills in order to advance to the (CEFR) A1 level. On completion of this course, students will be proficient in the following areas:

• Speaking - Make simple statements of fact, ask for factual information, give personal information and take part in social interaction.
• Listening - Follow a short narrative and listen for detail, listen to extract key information and for gist.
• Reading - Obtain information from texts, give a description, follow a short narrative on a familiar topic or experience and read and recognize simple sentence structures.
• Writing - compose very simple text to communicate ideas or basic information and a simple and compound sentences using and, as and but.
• Vocabulary - Recognise a limited number of words, signs and symbols, recognize digits, and use and spell correctly some personal key words and familiar words.
• Grammar - Construct a simple sentence using basic word order and verb form.
• Pronunciation - Listen for phonological detail, use stress and intonation to make speech comprehensible and articulate the sounds of English.
• Practical English - Use simple phrases and sentences to describe everyday topics and common information.

Elementary (A1-A2)

• Speaking - Express views and opinions, give a short description, respond to requests for information, express statements of fact and express likes, dislikes, feelings, wishes and hopes.
• Listening - Listen and respond to requests for personal information and listen for grammatical information.
• Reading - Obtain information from texts and understand and identify the different purposes of short, straightforward texts.
• Writing - Compose simple text selecting appropriate format for the purpose and recognize that the way a text looks can help predict its purpose.
• Vocabulary - Recognize a range of familiar words and words with common spelling patterns and spell correctly the majority of personal details and familiar common words.
• Grammar - Use and spell correctly some personal key words and read and recognize simple sentence structures.
• Pronunciation - Use knowledge of basic sound, letter correspondence and letter patterns to aid spelling and use stress and intonation adequately to make speech comprehensible.
• Practical English - Use simple phrases and sentences to describe everyday topics and common information.

Pre-Intermediate (A2-B1)

This integrated course includes the study of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and practical English. At the end of each unit is a look back section, which gives the students a chance to go back over the previous unit and test themselves. There are progress tests at regular intervals in the course as well as mid-course and end of course tests. Course goals Students will: Improve all their skills in order to advance to the (CEFR) B1 level. On completion of this course, students will be proficient in the following areas:

• Speaking - Give a short description, narrate events in the past, use stress, intonation and pronunciation to be understood and make meaning clear, make arrangements and plans with other people and make suggestions and give advice.
• Listening - Listen for detail in short narratives, recognize features of spoken English, recognize context and predict meaning in a range of listening texts and oral interactions.
• Reading - Use context and a range of phonic and graphic knowledge to decode words, obtain information from texts, scan different parts of a text to locate information and use a variety of reading strategies.
• Writing - Structure main points of writing in short paragraphs, understand and distinguish the different purposes of texts at this level, and use basic sentence grammar accurately.
• Vocabulary - Recognize a range of familiar words and words with common spelling patterns, and recognize and understand relevant specialist key words.
• Grammar - Use knowledge of simple and compound sentence structure to work out meaning, use basic sentence grammar accurately, and use knowledge of syntax and grammar to work out meaning and confirm understanding.
• Pronunciation - Articulate sounds to make meaning understood and obtain information from a simplified dictionary to find meaning of unfamiliar words.
• Practical English - Use simple phrases and sentences to describe everyday topics and common information.

Intermediate (B1-B2)

This integrated course includes the study of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and practical English. At the end of each unit is a look back section, which gives the students a chance to go back over the previous unit and test themselves. There are progress tests at regular intervals in the course as well as mid-course tests and end of course tests. Course goals Students will: Improve all their skills in order to advance to the (CEFR) B2 level. On completion of this course, students will be proficient in the following areas:

• Speaking - Take part in social interaction, plan action with other people, express views and opinions, take part in more formal interactions and apologise and give excuses.
• Listening - follow a discussion without actively participating, e.g. on T.V. and listen for detail in narratives and explanations.
• Reading - Understand and identify the different ways in which meaning is built up in a range of paragraphed texts, and use skimming, scanning and detailed reading in different ways.
• Writing - Apply knowledge of spelling to a wide range of common words and special-interest vocabulary, structure main points of writing in short paragraphs and recognise the process of planning and drafting when writing certain kinds of text.
• Vocabulary - Extract main points and ideas and predict words from context and recognize and understand vocabulary associated with different kinds of text.
• Grammar - Use basic sentence grammar accurately, listen for grammatical detail and use implicit and explicit grammatical knowledge along with own knowledge and experience to predict meaning.
• Pronunciation - Use stress, intonation and pronunciation to be understood and to make meaning clear, and articulate the sounds of English in connected speech.
• Practical English - Use more complex phrases and sentences to describe everyday topics and common information.

Upper-Intermediate (B2-C1)

This integrated course includes the study of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and colloquial English. At the end of each unit is a look back section, which gives the students a chance to go back over the previous unit and test themselves. There are progress tests at regular intervals in the course as well as mid-course and end of course tests. Course goals Students will: Improve all their skills in order to advance to the (CEFR) C1 level. On completion of this course, students will be proficient in the following areas:

• Speaking - Involve other people in a discussion, include detail and develop ideas where appropriate, present information and ideas in a logical sequence, and respond to questions on a range of topics.
• Listening - Extract information from texts of varying lengths, recognize features of spoken language and listen for gist in a text.
• Reading - Understand how main points and specific detail are presented and linked, how images are used to infer meaning that is not explicit in the text and use organizational and structural features to locate information.
• Writing - Apply appropriate planning strategies, choose language suitable for purpose and audience, make notes to aid planning and select how much to write and the level of detail to include.
• Vocabulary - Recognize and understand an increasing range of vocabulary, applying knowledge of word structure, related words, root words, derivations and borrowings and use reference material to find information.
• Grammar - Use sentence grammar accurately to achieve purpose and write using complex sentences.
• Pronunciation - Use reference material to find out pronunciation of unfamiliar words, use stress and intonation so that meaning is clearly understood and listen for phonological detail.
• Colloquial English - Listen to interviews and practice common phrases.

Advanced (C1-C2)

This integrated course includes the study of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and colloquial English. At the end of each unit there is a look back section, which gives the students a chance to go back over the previous unit and test themselves. There are progress tests at regular intervals in the course as well as mid-course and end of course tests. Course goals Students will: Improve all their skills in order to advance to the (CEFR) C2 level. On completion of this course, students will be proficient in the following areas:

• Speaking - Use reference material to find out meaning of unfamiliar words, include detail and develop ideas where appropriate and take part in more formal interactions.
• Listening - Use organizational and structural features to locate information (e.g. contexts, index, menus, subheadings, paragraphs), recognize features of spoken language and present information and ideas in a logical sequence.
• Reading - Recognize and understand the vocabulary associated with different types of text, using appropriate strategies to work out meaning, use skimming and scanning and detailed reading in different ways for different purposes and give factual accounts.
• Writing - Apply appropriate planning strategies, use proof-reading to revise writing for general meaning and accuracy of grammar, spelling and punctuation, and structure texts sequentially and coherently.
• Vocabulary - Recognise and understand the vocabulary associated with different types of text. Use appropriate strategies to work out meaning and select format and appropriate structure for different purposes.
• Grammar - Use sentence grammar accurately to achieve purpose, understand how main points and specific detail are presented and linked and how images are used to infer meaning that is not explicit in the text.
• Pronunciation - Listen for phonological detail and articulate the sounds of English in connected speech.
• Colloquial English - Listen to interviews and practice common expressions, idioms and phrases.
