    This unit addresses the skills and knowledge required to implement employment, retention and re-employment strategies for the career transition and senior workforce especially the SAF and Home team officers. It covers assessing requirements for older employees and how these can be implemented to support employment, retention and employment of this demographic.

    The increasing numbers of older workers seeking to keep working or re-join the workforce represent an opportunity for organisations which are ready to rise to the challenge: to appreciate the importance of older workers, to manage the changes, and to ensure that their workplaces are positioned to make the most of older workers‘ contributions.

    Learning Outcomes

    1. Understand work design strategies for older employees

    • Identify jobs and define job scope that are suitable for older employees
    • Explore flexible work arrangements and facilitate job re-design to accommodate older employees’ requirements
    • Learn how to adapt to new job roles and work flow/processes

    2. Understand employment strategies for older employees

    • Identify opportunities of creating an age-friendly workplace
    • Access information about national initiatives to verify initiatives for the employment of older employees
    • Understand recruitment strategies which support workplace enhancements made to suit older employees
    • State the organisation policies on older employees externally to understand the organisation as an employer of choice

    3. Retention and re-employment strategies for older employees

    • Understand the human resource policy to support retention of older employees
    • Explore the channels to facilitate re-employment job arrangements for older employees
    • Negotiate for employment contract to meet the needs of the organisation and the older employees to be re-employed
    • Increasing productivity and training for future re-employment
