Course details

The Employability skills Certificate will give the student the necessary skills to apply for a job, to evaluate their skills and to identify any skills shortages. It will also provide the student with the foundation in mathematics and computer skills to progress to a Major Award in General Learning, FETAC Level 4 and Business studies Level 5 in the Centre.

Course Subjects

  • A minimum of eight modules must be completed to achieve a major award:
  • Career Preparation (mandatory)
  • Communications (mandatory)
  • Mathematics (mandatory)
  • Application of Numbers (mandatory)
  • Work Experience (mandatory)
  • Word Processing (mandatory)
  • Internet Skills (mandatory)

Entry Requirements

  • Junior Certificate
  • All entry is subject to interview

Work Experience

This programme is specifically a certificate in employability skills and therefore, work placement is a mandatory part of the course.

About Portarlington Adult & Community Education Centre

It gives me great pleasure to Theylcome you to the Portarlington Further Education Centre. The Centre is dedicated to providing adults with further or ‘second chance’ education and training opportunities. Its ethos is consistent with the profile of its learner population, meaning that its focal point is on the active participation of the learner in the decision making process. Portarlington is focused on providing an environment of study that will enrich the quality of life for both learners and tutors. It also concentrates on enabling learners to engage in life-long learning.
