Pre-requisites:
- AMI 3-6 Montessori Diploma or AMI FOUNDATION COURSE*
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not obligatory
Course Includes:
Two weeks of Observation and two consecutive weeks of Teaching Practice in AMI classes in each academic year.
Course Overview:
- Montessori philosophy and practices of education with particular emphasis on children aged 6 to 12 years.
- Mathematics (Arithmetic, Geometry and Algebra).
- Language, written and spoken, including age appropriate functional aspects of grammar.
- History and Prehistory
- Physical and Biological Sciences: understanding the origins and development of the universe and human relationship to this development
- Physical and Political Geography presentations designed to foster an appreciation for the interdependencies of the Earth and life upon it.
- Supervised practice sessions with Montessori materials.
- Supervised observation and Teaching Practice in AMI classes.
- Preparation of Albums containing illustrated notes of Montessori methodology. These albums/folders constitute the student's basic teaching manuals.
- Reading Seminars.
- Written theory and written practical examinations
- Oral examinations
Course Location
About Montessori College AMI
The College has operated under the auspices of the Association Montessori Internationale since its foundation in Sion Hill, Montessori 1935Blackrock, by thegate Dominican Sisters. Dr Montessori herself examined the first Diploma students there in 1934. The College is now located at the Mount Saint Mary's Campus on the Dundrum Road. This is the only AMI Training Centre in Ireland and is managed by a Board of Directors.
