Course details
The course is delivered in house in our dedicated training unit and is delivered using HSE Guidelines (Recognising & Responding to Elder Abuse in Care Settings) and is in line with Section 2 – Standard 8 ‘The Protection Standard’ of the ‘National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland,’ as published by HIQA.
The training programme is designed to:
- Increase knowledge and understanding of what elder abuse is
- Help staff identify care practices that might lead to or contribute to elder abuse
- Help staff recognise elder abuse
- Explain the actions that need to be taken if it is suspected that elder abuse is taking place
- Recognise discrimination.

All staff who work in direct care services.

- Module 1: What is Elder Abuse
- Module 2: Types of Abuse
- Module 3: Physical Abuse
- Module 4: Psychological Abuse
- Module 5: Financial Abuse
- Module 6: Sexual Abuse
- Module 7: Abuse by Neglect and Acts of Omission
- Module 8: Abuse by Discrimination
- Module 9: Institutional Abuse
- Module 10: Managing Disclosure.
