Course details

The course is delivered in house in our dedicated training unit and is delivered using HSE Guidelines (Recognising & Responding to Elder Abuse in Care Settings) and is in line with Section 2 – Standard 8 ‘The Protection Standard’ of the ‘National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland,’ as published by HIQA.

The training programme is designed to:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of what elder abuse is
  • Help staff identify care practices that might lead to or contribute to elder abuse
  • Help staff recognise elder abuse
  • Explain the actions that need to be taken if it is suspected that elder abuse is taking place
  • Recognise discrimination.

Who should attend this course?

All staff who work in direct care services.

  • Module 2: Types of Abuse
  • Module 3: Physical Abuse
  • Module 4: Psychological Abuse
  • Module 5: Financial Abuse
  • Module 6: Sexual Abuse
  • Module 7: Abuse by Neglect and Acts of Omission
  • Module 8: Abuse by Discrimination
  • Module 9: Institutional Abuse
  • Module 10: Managing Disclosure.
