Introduction
This Advanced Certificate course gives learners all the practical skills and underpinning knowledge required for a career as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA). The course covers different settings to which a Special Needs Assistant maybe be appointed including: an early years setting, special school or mainstream school. It also meets the educational requirements for the ECCE Scheme. Many childcare settings are now seeking Level 6 qualifications for their employees in line with this scheme.
Entry Requirements
This is an Advanced Certificate course for those who have completed the QQI. Level 5 Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education or equivalent. Entry may be subject to interview and depends on satisfactory completion of an induction.

If you already have a childcare qualification or are currently working in the childcare field this course will enhance your knowledge and skills in the area of Special Needs Assisting. Work Experience within a variety of educational settings forms an integral part of the course.
Career Options | Progression
Holders of a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education - Special Needs Assistant may progress to further study at Institutes of Technology/Universities through the Higher Education Links Scheme. You may also directly enter employment in a Special Needs Assisting (SNA) role in a range of educational environments - early years settings, pre-schools, special schools and mainstream school.
