The Aim of the Early Childhood Care & Education L 6 (Supervision) in meeting the needs of the early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) sector is to provide learners with a level of competence that will enable them to work as highly skilled professionals in this field.
Pobal Funding The Learner Fund offers eligible staff a subsidy towards the cost of early years courses at Level 5 and Level 6. The aim is to support staff working in early years services to be able to meet the new minimum qualifications requirements by September 2015.
The Early Childhood Care and Education course will equip the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence required to supervise an early childhood care and education settings and support others in their role and performance. Learners will understand and relate concepts of leadership and supervision to pedagogy and practice showing a significant depth of knowledge of the principles, theories and concepts pertinent to effective ECCE service delivery.
It will prepare learners to work competently, safely and effectively with children and with the practical skills and knowledge needed to maximise their potential in making a successful transition to Third level education and or other courses & training.
Learners will be introduced to a range of perspectives on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). Understand and implement a range of policies, procedures and best practice guidelines that support the delivery of an effective early childhood care and education service.
The requirements for entry to the Early Childhood Care & Education (Supervision) Level 6 are outlined below:
- Leaving Certificate standard or appropriate FETAC/QQI Qualification or equivalent.
- Mature Applicants with relevant life and work experience may be exempt fromthe above requirements.
- English Language Proficiency Test where deemed appropriate or an IELTS score of 5.0.

Assessment
A combination of module appropriate assessment procedures will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of this course. These methods will include a combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as assignments, collection of work, learner records, projects and skills demonstration.
