Course Aim
To provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills for entry into a career in Childcare.
Course Content:
Mandatory components

Elective components
Two components from the following list will be selected by the college subject to availability
Creative Arts for Early Childhood (5N1769) Special Needs Assisting (5N1786) Word Processing (5N1358) Social Studies (5N1370)
Entry Requirements:
Leaving Certificate / Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI/ FETAC Level 4. Mature students with relevant life or work experience. All candidates will be interviewed individually.
Work Experience:
Work Experience is a compulsory part of the course. Students will follow the QQI Work Experience module and will spend one day a week on a work experience placement. Garda clearance is required and will be organised through the college.
Certification:
QQI Level 5 Major Award in Early Childhood Care & Education.
Prospects:
Successful completion of the course will enable learners to enter employment in the Childcare Area or to progress to further study at QQI Level 6 or Third Level through the Higher Education Links Scheme.
