Domestic Appliance Repair Sector Information

As there are more than 1.7 million households in Ireland, with each house containing multiple domestic appliances, there are millions of these devices in operation on a daily basis.

However, the significant demands which are placed on these appliances, can cause faults to occur.

There are high replacement costs associated with such equipment, (which includes washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, fridges, fridge freezers etc.) and therefore the domestic appliance repairs sector is experiencing an increase in demand. Therefore it is essential that there are sufficient skilled personnel to satisfy the demand in this growing sector.

Chevron Training, Ireland’s leading training provider, has developed a practical ‘hands on’ training course which will enable learners to repair appliances from a range of manufacturers and thus obtain employment or become self-employed in servicing and repairing a wide range of domestic appliances.

Here's what past participants had to say about the Domestic Appliance Repair Course:

Pat from Dublin “I am an electrician by trade, I attended the Domestic Appliance Repair course as I noticed there has been a shift in culture from replacing to repairing of household appliances, the course was very worthwhile and practical. We spent a lot of time working on appliances, learned fault finding techniques, how to source parts, the questions to ask customers on a phone call to determine what parts you should have with you when going on the service call out. Today I am working full time on Domestic Appliance Repairs, I get on average 3 service calls a day, I also repair appliance for resale.”

Jason from Cork “I have a mechanical background, the course was a route to a 2nd income for me, I have to admit IÂ have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of work I am getting, I could work fulltime if I wished. The course is very hands on, there was nearly 35 appliances on the course, the more you put into the course, the more you get out of it. I would advise everyone to practise the brushes, by far the most common service call I get."

"I have just completed the White Goods repair course last week and I would just like to thank you for your help and assistance in making it a success. I have been a self employed heating/plumbing contractor since 1988 and due to unforseen circumstances had to close the business with great regret. This course has given me the confidence in myself to get back to gainful employment and hopefully in the future to build it back to a viable business. I would also compliment the course on all the modules, both the theory and the practical and the hands on work on the appliances. Last but not least I would like to compliment the trainer Noel Lavelle for his total professionalism as the course trainer, in his ability to deliver and explain all the aspects of the course and at times the questions were coming hot and heavy at him but at all times he delivered the answers like a true professional. I would highly recommend Chevron Training and would have no problem in using my name as a reference, so to Chevron Training and Noel Lavelle, go raimh mile maith agat" Noel Davis
