Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

Course details

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge associated with the planning and construction of a range of building types within Australia. During this course you will investigate, research and apply problem solving techniques in a variety of areas.

You will learn how to select and prepare a contract, along with the process of identifying and producing estimated costing for building and construction projects and the preparation of technical reports. You will learn how to survey sites and how to apply structural principles to residential low to med rise construction. Also covered in this Diploma is supervising the planning of on-site medium rise building or construction work, the application of structural principles to the construction of medium rise buildings and project quality and project risk.

Fast track - Credit Transfer
If you have completed your Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) you will receive up to 6 credit transfers into the Diploma. This means you could get qualified in just 12 months.

The part-time course will be delivered 2 nights a week and the occasional Saturday. You will need to complete 12 subjects (delivered in 4 clusters) over 12 months.

What employment opportunities will I have?

Graduates may gain employment as a trainee building professional (management), building works supervisor (medium-rise or unlimited), commercial building contractor employee, contract administer and building estimator.
Graduates who can demonstrate sufficient industry experience in Australia may wish to apply to the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to become a Registered Building Practitioner (Builder). This is subject to applicant interview with the VBA and other factors outside the control of Box Hill Institute.
