Entry Requirements:
- Applicants will have an academic qualification in Theology or Religious Education.
- Academic qualifications and/or relevant professional experience in Pastoral Care, Social Studies, Psychology, Counselling or Pastoral Ministry would also be an advantage.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent in the discipline or a related discipline of the chosen pathway.
- Progress to year 2 is subject to achieving an honours award (H2.2) in year 1 of the programme.
Programme Overview
- Modules include four 15 ECTS modules in Year 1 of the Programme:
- Reflective Practice
- Contemporary Developments in Education
- Issues and Skills in Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy Studies
- Theory / Practice of Counselling: Adolescent Development & Pastoral Skills
- Year 2 includes three modules:
- Module 1: Dissertation (30 ECTs)
- Module 2: School Placement (15 ECTs)
- Module 3: Advanced Issues and Skills in Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy Studies (15 ECTs)
Career Opportunities
It is estimated that a significant cohort of chaplains will have to be educated for the secondary level education sector over the coming years. In addition, graduates of this programme can work as chaplains or members of pastoral care teams at Universities and Institutes of Technology and other education institutions.
