The main aim of the ITEC Level 2 Diploma is to enable candidates to provide treatments for the purpose of caring for and enhancing nails and to provide skills at Level 2 in the National Qualification Framework for those interested in the Beauty Therapy industry

Course Objectives

The ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Nail Art comprises of ITEC unit:

• Unit 11 Manicure & Pedicure
• Unit 50 Nail Art
• Unit 22 Professional Conduct & Business Awareness

Course Outline

Unit 11 Manicure & Pedicure

This unit enables students to understand the different nail structure and systems, demonstrate how to check for contraindications and recognise any nail diseases and disorders and perform use of various products and tools. The unit also aims at enabling students to file nails according to nail shape, application of cuticle cream or oil, perform massage of hand and lower leg using various classical movements, buffing of nails and the correct application of base coat, nail enamel and top coat.

Unit 50 Nail Art

This unit enables students to understand the contraindications and recognise any nail diseases and disorders, causes of damage from previous nail enhancements applications, the contents of the products used and the chemical reactions taking place. The unit is also aimed at demonstrating the use of various products and tools, the correct nail art techniques and applications.

Unit 22 Professional Conduct and Business Awareness

This unit aims to provide understanding on maintaining a professional working relationship with other students/therapists, understanding on the impact of advertising, the necessity of having professional indemnity insurance, ensuring strict client confidentiality of clients and understanding the need for client’s consent. The unit is also aimed at demonstrating how to put client into the recovery position, supervise an evacuation in case of a fire alarm, carry out basic safety checks for electrical equipment and to promote the appropriate body language at all times.

Certificate Conferring Body

Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the Level 2 Diploma in Nail Art by International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC).

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that Candidates hold at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C or equivalent are recommended, but this is not essential. This is at the discretion of MDI and adult returners’ experience will be considered.

Other than the mentioned pre-requisites, the students should also have the following:

• Students must be able to read and write in English or Chinese. Other cases will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
• Students should be of a minimum of 16 years of age to be eligible for the courses.
• For foreign students, relevant passes are required.

Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirement will be required to undergo an entrance test at MDI.

Graduation Requirement

Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:

• Candidates must complete all modules with at least 75% (90% for International students) in attendance for each module to qualify for a full diploma.
• Evidence of treatments is graded as either a Pass or Fail.
• If a candidate is unsuccessful in any area, they will be expected to re-sit only the unit where they have not achieved a pass grade, to which they will be referred. Referrals should be completed within one year of the original examination provided that re-sits are attempted at least once every three months.

Examination

At the end of the course, you can register to sit for ITEC Examination. Upon passing both the practical and theory examinations, you will receive the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Nail Art by ITEC.

Manner of Assessment

Awards will be awarded by ITEC based on the student results.
