Course details
The course is open to those who have attained a pass grade in Irish in the Honours level Leaving Certificate examination and/or who satisfy the Academic Director of the course or his/her appointee that they have a sufficiently high degree of competence in written and spoken Irish. Each applicant must complete an Irish placement test (online) to determine the applicant’s Irish language level.
Course Aim:
This course aims to provide the student with a high level of communication and written skills in Irish, enabling them to effectively conduct their professional business in the language.
Objectives of the course
- To provide the student with a level of proficiency that will enable him/her to communicate effectively in Irish.
- To develop the student’s understanding of the correct usage of Irish.
- To give the student an insight into Gaelic culture and learning.
- To foster a positive attitude towards Irish among the students that will increase their use of Irish in their everyday communication.
Oral Examination
- Students’ competence in spoken Irish will be tested by oral examination in the first and second years.
Written Examination
- Students must satisfy the examiners that they can write accurately in Irish and will be tested by written examination at the end of the first and second years.
