    Course details

As a result, engineers must be able to apply multi-disciplinary technologies in problem-solving, and be skilled project managers as well. An understanding of the social and economic policies affecting engineering decisions is also vital.

The Diploma in Engineering Systems and Management (DESM) will provide you with a multi-disciplinary education that will help you meet these needs. You’ll be trained not only in engineering disciplines but also in system thinking and project management.

Our broad-based curriculum will ensure that you gain the necessary interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as hard technical skills and soft people skills. The programme also allows you to choose an option in the final year of your studies that will further equip you with the knowledge and skills to be ‘industry ready’as soon as you graduate.

    Final Year Options

    Urban Transport Solutions

In the recently launched Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) 2013, it states that Singapore’s vision is to make public transport a choice mode. The rail transport system network is expected to double from 138km today to 360km by 2030 to enhance connectivity. Also, plans are put in place to significantly increase bus capacity and to enhance bus service levels through the use of advanced bus fleet management systems and other emerging technologies to benefit commuters. These developments will see the increased demand for skilled manpower in the transportation industry.

This option aims to prepare graduates for roles in transport operations. The graduates are not only adept in performing the operation’s functional roles, they can also comprehend the inter-dependency of the connected systems and equipment involved, and can be called upon to perform technical maintenance when required.

    Intelligent Systems

In the recently launched Smart Mobility 2030 Master Plan, it outlines the clear intent to leverage on advancement in technology and innovative Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions to better manage transport networks and improve urban mobility. Key developments identified in this plan includes, autonomous vehicles and provision of sensors on roads for applications such as Smart Junction and Vehicle ITS Telematics.

This option aims to prepare graduates with the essential technical knowledge and skills applicable to the exciting area of intelligent transportation systems.

    Career Options

DESM graduates can look forward to excellent career prospects in Engineering, Operations and Project Management positions in wideranging industries such as:
