    Course details

    The focus of this course is to experience and explore furniture design in the context of personal, public, domestic as well as commercial environments, and in the process you will develop an understanding of how the environment plays an integral role in its function and articulation. By combining three-dimensional and spatial design practices, you will acquire a multidisciplinary perspective to the design process and integrated learning experience. You will develop competencies in critical analysis, design synthesis, articulation of concepts and in communicating your ideas as you investigate changing cultures, human behaviour, technologies and trends and their implications on design.

    What will I learn?

    At the end of this 3 year course, students will be able to:

    • Work with a wide range of materials and familiarise with various production techniques (develop knowledge of material and production)
    • Approach design processes with an integrated and multidisciplinary perspective in context of personal, public, domestic and commercial environments
    • Demonstrate aesthetic and ergonomics sensibilities in relation to space and its environment

    Selection is competitive and is subject to the availability of places. However, the Academy may give consideration to talented applicants who excel in Artistic Talent and Creativity, but have not fully met the educational qualifications stated.
