    This programme will equip participants with the fundamental knowledge of screen acting. Learn the various skills and techniques of script reading, voice articulation and character building through the guidance of Media Practitioners.

    OUTLINE

    The Diploma in Acting (Chinese) consists of seven modules of study.

    MODULE 1

    FUNDAMENTALS OF ACTING

    An overview of acting which includes characterization, self realisation and strengthening of affective memory. Students will learn to break their mental concept of themselves and to rebuild their self-awareness in order to strengthen their learning ability and confidence in acting.

    LEARNING OUTCOME

    Self Introduction

    • Do cold readings, script breakdown, character development, techniques of proper breathing during talking, clearer speaking techniques and basic knowledge of social etiquette

    Method Acting - Fundamentals 1 & 2

    • Achieve realistic emotional performances

    Characterization 1 & 2

    • Develop a character that has depth through imagination and research
    • Accepting different views to creating an interesting & multi-dimensional character

    Method Acting for TV 1, 2 & 3

    • Application of Method Acting techniques

    MODULE 2

    VOICE TECHNIQUES

    Learn the various breathing techniques and the correct posture and pronunication for voice acting.

    Breathing Techniques, Articulation and Diction

    • Pronunciation and articulation
    • Advantages and disadvantages of the various breathing techniques

    Tonality and Expression

    • Expression in language and developing sound expression

    Voice and Emotions

    • Identifying and rectifying voice
    • Identifying the difference between the use of sound and voice

    Acting with Voice

    • Performing with the voice

    MODULE 3

    BRINGING A CHARACTER TO LIFE

    Learn to read and understand the script by breaking them and bringing the characters to life.

    LEARNING OUTCOME

    Script Reading

    • Understand scripts in a dramatic way
    • Script analysis: bringing out the hidden and unusual elements
    • Memorizing scripts by analyzing and understanding scripts effectively

    Improvisation

    • Adapting changes quickly and improvise in the shortest possible time

    Casting Process & Techniques

    • Understand and preparing for the casting process

    Characterization and Space

    • Develop a character that has depth through imagination and research
    • Accepting different views to create an interesting & multi-dimensional character

    Mind, Body and Voice

    • Using posture, gesture and facial expressions to express emotions and convey messages
    • Understanding personal voice and ability to stretch

    MODULE 4

    DIRECTING A FIGHT

    • Proper warm up and stretches to reduce the risk of injury during a fighting scene.
    • Perform a realistic directed fight scene and the proper falling positions that will suits the camera angle.
    • Including slapping, stabbing, strangling, defense, struggle, working in pairs for a fight scene demo.
    • Reacting and countering moves during a fight scene. Using swords and guns to simulate a real fighting scene.
    • Experience wire movement: techniques on how to fly, turn, spin and land beautifully.

    LEARNING OUTCOME

    Basic Warm Ups and Falling

    • Warm up exercises before the shoot to reduce risk of injury

    Basic Fighting Poses

    • Performing simple fighting poses

    Fighting on Screen

    • Understanding fighting techniques on screen

    Wire Movements

    • Proper falling movements and wire movement techniques

    MODULE 5

    DANCE BASICS

    An introductory component for students with little to no experience in dance and movement, and takes the format of a basic Ballet and Broadway jazz/show dance class. Through a simple choreography set to a musical theatre piece, students will be exposed to foundation steps in jazz and ballet technique that are commonly applied in dance and movement for stage and television shows.

    LEARNING OUTCOME

    Dance and Body Movements 1, 2 & 3

    • Understand basic dance class format, associated etiquette and basic dance movement principles
    • Understand basic safety issues in dance and movement
    • Rehearse a choreography set to a musical theatre piece, and be able to perform it without prompting

    MODULE 6

    FILMING ON SET

    Being on set. The class will prepare participants to be ready for proper filming, giving them opportunity to try out the various camera angle, shot sizes and learn about space and light.

    LEARNING OUTCOME

    Production Process

    • Understanding the production process and the different camera angle and shot sizes

    Filming on Set Techniques 1 & 2

    • Understanding the filming set with proper setup of props and lights
    • Following instruction from directors and work with other casts

    MODULE 7

    IMAGING DESIGN AND GROOMING

    • Make-up demonstration and basic make up techniques. The module will cover topics such as,
    • Highlight assets & correcting imperfections
    • Introduction to body shapes
    • Dos and don’ts of styling for different body shapes
    • Styling fro plus size bodies: Visual techniques to flatter the body form

    LEARNING OUTCOME

    Imaging

    • Identifying different body shapes and picking the right clothes that complements

    Basic Make-Up Techniques

    • Using essential make up tools
    • Application of basic pre-makeup skincare
    • Make up techniques including touch ups

    Managing Media & Press

    • Learn how to handle the media

    CERTIFICATE

    Students will be awarded the Diploma in Acting (Chinese) study from Singapore Media Academy upon successful completion of all required modules.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    • Aged 18 and above
    • Passion in acting
    • Minimum GCE ‘N’ Level or equivalent; and
    • A pass in GCE ‘N’ Level Chinese or HSK Level 5 or equivalent
