  • Week 2 Equipment & Accessories
    Camera Types : Point & Shoot/Compact/DSLR, Pixel Count/Quality/CCD Sensor Size
    Lenses : Wide Angle/Standard/Telephoto/Macro/Zoom
    Memory : Compact Flash/Secure Digital/Multimedia/Memory Stick
  • Week 3 Exposure & Metering
    Aperture : Depth of Field, Shutter Speed : Freezing Action/Avoiding Shake
    ISO : ‘Fast’ & ‘Slow’ light sensitivity, Relationship between Aperture/Shutter Speed & ISO, Setting exposure for different situations, Automatic/Manual, Under & over exposure - when & why, Metering Modes, Averaged/Centre-Weighted/Spot/Dynamic
  • Week 4 Composition – General Guidelines
    Rule of Thirds, Filling the Frame, Negative Space, Symmetry, Context, Bokeh
    Breaking the ‘Rules’
  • Week 5 Light & Lighting
    The key role of light in photography, Natural Light, Directional light, Dealing with shadow, Flash, Studio Lighting, Low light/long exposures
  • Week 6 Portraiture
    Tips for composing, Lens selection, Lighting options, Practical Workshop in Class
  • Week 7 Black & White Photography
    Relevance, Appropriate application, Digital Conversion : In-Camera/Post-Edit
    Greyscale/Desaturation/Channel Mixer
  • Week 8 Field Work Evening
    Students led on photo-assignment
  • Week 9 Photographing Different Subjects
    Landscape, Nature & Wildlife, Macro, Sports, Travel
  • Week 10 Introduction to Editing & Printing
    Software Packages : Photoshop/Jasc/Corel/Proprietory Systems, Basic Editing Functions : Contrast/Saturation/Sharpening/Cropping/Red-eye removal, Levels & Curves, Printing : DPI/PPI, Photographic Paper types, Borders/Frames/Mounting

About Mohill Computer Training

Mohill Computer Training (MCT) is run by the Mohill Community Development Association Ltd, a voluntary community organization founded in 1985 and incorporated as a limited company in 1996. The aims of the MCDA are to promote economic activity in the area and to train people to compete effectively in an evolving jobs market, particularly in information and communications technology.

To this end, the MCDA runs the Mohill Enterprise Centre where MCT is situated as well as a number of industrial units which are occupied by local businesses.
