Course details

This intensive 6 day workshop is designed for Actors, Directors, Designers, Dramaturgs, Writers and Creative Producers who wish to develop their skills in the area of devised theatre making. Led by award winning theatre maker, Gary Keegan, participants will explore a wide range of methodologies and techniques used in devised theatre and put these new skills into practice as the group devise and rehearse an original work for performance on Saturday evening to an invited audience.

Participants of the Devising Theatre Intensive can expect to:

  • Gain skills to use in your own practice
  • Work as part of a group
  • Discover ways of establishing an effective collaboration within an ensemble
  • Explore how to find a theme or a story
  • Explore different ways of generating script
  • Experiment with different formal ideas
  • Experiment with different performance styles
  • Harness the individual and collective skills and abilities of the ensemble
  • Understand ways of shaping and editing your material
  • Devise and stage an original work at an end of week showcase

About Gaiety School of Acting

The Gaiety School of Acting – The National Theatre School of Ireland is a Not for Profit organisation founded in 1986 by the internationally renowned theatre director Joe Dowling, in response to the lack of full time actor training programmes in Ireland at that time. The school is now widely regarded as the country’s premier training facility for actors.

Their policy is to train actors for theatre, film and television. The school offers a two-year intensive acting programme and an extensive selection of part-time and tailored cTheirses for adults, teenagers, children and overseas students.The school has been providing professional actor training for almost 30 years and include Colin Farrell, Olivia Wilde, Colin O’Donoghue, Aidan Turner (Best Male Newcomer, Jameson Empire Awards 2014), Eva Birthistle (Best Actress Lead Television Award, IFTA 2014) Charlie Murphy (Best Actress, The Irish Times Awards 2013) and Sarah Greene (Tony Award Nominee 2014) as alumni of distinction.
