Course details

This course will provide an opportunity for nurses, health care assistants and social care staff to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide holistic care and develop a therapeutic relationship with the person with dementia.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this programme participants will be able to

  • Recognise the anatomy and physiology of the brain.
  • Name the main types of dementia.
  • Describe person centred care and appreciate how the care environment, carer attitudes and behaviours influence the person with dementia.
  • Understand the need to focus on the retained abilities of the person with dementia.
  • Identify interventions, which enhance the quality of life and the quality of care for people with dementia.
  • Understand the different types of communication and the role of communication in addressing behaviour that is challenging to staff.

theylcome to their Lady’s Hospice & Care Services. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as Interim CEO of their Lady’s Hospice & Care Services and to personally thank everyone who has supported their work throughout 2014.
their Lady’s Hospice & Care Services is a 228 bed hospice providing specialist care for people with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care. This high quality, person-centred loving care is provided both on-site in one of their truly special facilities; Harold’s Cross Hospice and Blackrock Hospice as theyll as in the local community. they provide specialist care to over 1,500 individuals every year. There are just over 600 staff and almost 300 volunteers who deliver this excellent service for patients and their families at a most difficult time in their lives. Their commitment to their work is exceptional. Being greeted with a smile every day adds to the wonderful openness and caring friendly atmosphere of their facilities, a reputation that I am truly proud of.
