he Defensive Driving Course (DDC) 8/6 internationally certified course from National Safety Council (NSC) USA. The course material comprised of NSC licensed power point presentation, audio visuals and workbooks from NSC USA. The course methodology is not about teaching driving; the program focuses on inpidual behavior and attitudes behind steering. What should be your driving ethics, what norms should be followed while driving and how you should react to adverse driving conditions?
Session 1 - Get Defensive about it
After you complete this session, you should be able to:
- Recognize the need for and benefits of defensive driving
- Recognize that defensive driving involves legal and personal responsibilities
- Identify risky driving attitudes and behaviors
- Explain what it means to be a defensive driver
- List the three basic steps in the DDC Collision Prevention Formula
- Determine if a collision was preventable
Session 2 - Making Driving Choices
After you complete this session, you should be able to:
- Identify the personal benefits of using occupant restraint systems
- Explain the effects of alcohol and other drugs on driving abilities
- Identify physical and mental driver conditions that may affect driving abilities
- List techniques you can use to maintain control in adverse driving situations
Session 3 - What Conditions Drive You?
After you complete this session, you should be able to:
- Conduct an exterior and interior vehicle check before driving
- Identify five uncontrollable driving conditions that contribute to collisions
- Identify driving hazards associated with these conditions in time to avoid them
- List defensive driving maneuvers that help you cope with and maintain control in each uncontrollable driving condition
Session 4 - The choice is yours
After you complete this session, you should be able to:
- List the six most common types of driving errors that contribute to collisions
- Identify reasons drivers choose to speed
- List alternatives to speeding
- Explain how to safely approach and proceed through all intersections
- Explain how to make safe and legal turns
- Identify the hazards involved in passing
- Explain how to evaluate a potential passing situation
- Explain the three steps needed to complete a safe pass
- Explain how to avoid a head on collision
- State how to determine safe following distance
Session 5 - What are you willing to do?
After you complete this session, you should be able to:
- Choose the appropriate defensive driving strategy to avoid a crash in any given driving situation
- Identify personal behaviors and decisions you will make in future driving situations to avoid collisions and violations
Pre-requisites
All delegates who so ever will attend this training must hold valid local driving license.
