Course details

In this course, participants will learn the required techniques and processes, which will help them to understand the root cause(s) of a strategic problem (or issue) and making the best decision in different circumstances.

Course Objectives:

• Define strategic problems and identify potential root cause(s)
• Establish the criteria for an effective decision
• Analyze the risks involved and strategies to overcome them
• Implement the recommended solution and plan a communication strategy

Module 1 Back to Basics: Key Principles of Problem Solving and Decision Making

• A range of creative problem solving techniques
• Methods to collect and evaluate a variety of information
• A number of recognized decision making techniques to evaluate options

Module 2: Understanding the Problem and Effective Decision Making

• A strategic problem and its root cause(s)
• The criteria for an effective decision
• Different tools to recommend solutions

Module 3: Assessing and Managing Risk

• Risks related to decisions and stakeholders
• Own and organizational attitude towards risk
• Management’s approach to manage risk

Module 4: Implementing the Recommended Solution

• Stakeholders influenced by the recommended solution
• The process of change to implement the recommended solution
• Effectiveness of solutions and its relevant communication process

Assessment Strategy:

Participants will be informally assessed on their interaction during sessions and their participation in exercises.
