As an intellectual property attorney, one thing that I would really like to see artists stop believing is that when someone copies their work that there is nothing that they can do about it. I created this course for visual artists who create and share their art work. In this course, I walk you step by step through completing the copyright registration process right from your home computer. Each step of the application process is covered, completing the application, minimizing fees, and submitting copies of your work with the Copyright Office. If you want to be able to do something about someone copying your work - you need to register your work.

You should take this course if you're a visual artist who has ever shared their work online or in a public setting, thereby putting your work at risk of being copied and profited off of by others. This course is important because in it, visual artists will learn the power of copyright registration and how they can use it to protect themselves against thieves and copycats. This course is not only a step by step walk-through of the registration process but it will also teach you how to incorporate copyright registration and protection into your artistic planning and scheduling.

"But my art isn't worth anything." Here's the thing, just because you haven't figured out how to monetize your artwork doesn't mean that someone else won't take one look at your artwork and figure out a market to make money off it. And if they think they can get away with it they won't hesitate to copy your work and do just that. You may not see the value in your work right now, but trust me, you'll wish you had once someone else does. You'll only effectively be able to do something about it with a copyright registration.

I'll give you a quick and dirty intro into copyright. What it is, what it protects, what it doesn't protect and what it means for your when you have one. Next up, we're on the copyright website showing you how things work and taking you through each step of the application from creating a new user account to a finished application for submission. Then I'll touch on the best practices for submitting copies of your work to the Copyright office.

You will be kicking yourself if you don't protect your work as soon as you can. If you are an artist and you can afford to file your registrations you 100% need to be. Period.
