Course details
The course is designed to give delegates an understanding of the legal requirements surrounding confined space operations. This will include recognising the types of confined spaces and their associated hazards together with knowledge of the implementation of control measures to eliminate or reduce the risk. The course aims to give an understanding of the appropriate accident and emergency procedures required and helps to identify the wide range of confined space safety equipment available and its uses.

- Identification of risks and their control
- Workplace safety
- Weil's Disease and sewage decontamination
- Hazardous atmospheres and gas monitoring
- The risk assessment process
- Operation of safe systems of work
- Use of permit to work control measures
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Selection of suitable equipment
- IP ratings, intrinsically safe and ATEX approved
- Equipment pre-use inspection and safe operation
- Fall arrest systems - theory only
- Emergency procedures
- Theory test
- Practical training
- Practical assessment
TARGET AUDIENCE
The course is designed for all personnel responsible for the design of safe working practices and overall responsibility and supervision of personnel entering into confined spaces. It covers the legislation surrounding confined space entry, techniques for recognising potentially hazardous situations and their remedies, and good safety practices.
PRE-COURSE PREPARATION
None required - and as the course is classroom based no PPE is required.
CERTIFICATION
Delegates successfully completing the course will be awarded a City & Guilds - Level 2 Qualification.
