Course details
- Part of administering a cloud implementation is ensuring that correct resources are available and that users can access them in a timely manner. In this course, you'll focus on managing the cloud provider data center, including the allocation and monitoring of physical and virtual resources, the implementation of a disaster recovery and high availability strategy, and the tools provided for remote access of hosts and virtual machines. This course is one in a series of Skillsoft courses in the learning path that covers the objectives for the CompTIA Cloud+ CV0-001 certification exam.
- start the course
- describe the purpose and main objectives of resource monitoring in the data center
- describe the protocols used for monitoring including SNMP, and the alert channels an administrator can use
- describe how baselines are generated, and how they are used in conjunction with thresholds
- describe how remediation can be automated in the data center
- describe how to select appropriate CPU, memory, and network resources for VM hosts based on expected and projected usage scenarios
- describe how storage is allocated and quotas are applied on VM hosts in the data center
- describe how physical resources are pooled in a virtual environment
- describe the implications of virtualization for software licensing
- describe virtual resources in the context of data center management including dynamic allocation
- describe how quotas are applied to guest VMs in a virtual environment
- describe how pooled resources are allocated to guests in a VM environment, including processor affinity
- describe how physical resources, such as optical disks, USB, and serial ports can be redirected to a guest VM
- describe the role of redundancy in providing highly available systems, and the process of failover and failback
- describe how and why to provide geographical redundancy
- describe how and why to mirror sites, and the processes involved
- describe the role of backup and recovery in disaster planning, and the types of backup
- describe how and why to plan data archival
- describe the concepts of synchronous and asynchronous replication
- describe the metrics of device and system failure and recovery, including MTBF, MTTR, RTO and RPO
