Compentency Based Interviewer Skills Development is widely recognised as a key skills development programme for staff who will be involved in interviewing on behalf of their organisations. This interviewing may be for external recruitment or increasingly, to assess current employees suitability for promotion. The content of this workshop is continuously reviewed and updated in the light of changes in best practice and new developments in employment legislation.

The programme has been specifically designed to provide participants with a clear understanding of the theory underpinning current best practice in recruitment and selection as well as providing them with an understanding of their responsibilities as interview board members. This workshop can be tailored to meet the needs of board members preparing for a particular/specific competition.

Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will:

  • A clear understanding of the theory & practice of structured and competency based interviewing
  • Professional guidance on developing best practice interviewing skills
  • An awareness and clear understanding of related current Employment Legislation

The course will cover the following areas:

  • Overview and update on best practice in workforce planning, with special reference to budgetary constraints and diminishing resources
  • Background and context of structured and competency based interviewing
  • Design and development of job specifications (job description and person specification)
  • Pre Interview board preparation
  • Role of chair and board members
  • Effective questioning techniques
  • Employment equality legislation
  • Candidate assessment, evaluation and feedback
