Day 1 – 3 -Communications Module.
Communication skills are highly valued in the all aspects of our working and personal life.
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
- develop an awareness of the essential role played by communication in human interaction
- acquire communication skills relevant to vocational and personal development
- understand the communicative principles and practices involved in gathering and relaying information
- acquire the skills and confidence to convey and interpret meaning, in writing, orally and visually
- develop a critical awareness of communications messages and media
- explore the use of modern communication and information technology, and its application in personal and vocational life.
Module 1. Verbal communications.
Module 2. Written communications.
Module 3. Non-verbal communications.
Module 4. Formal presentations.
Day 4 – 5 – Work Experience Module
The module is designed to meet the needs of learners undertaking a wide range of Level 5 further education and training courses. Work Experience is a planned experiential learning activity and is an integral part of an educational process. It involves learners preparing and planning for work, working under direction in a specific vocational area and reviewing and evaluating that work. The experience of work enables learners to develop work skills, evaluate employment opportunities and cope with changing work environments.
Module 1. Understanding work.
Module 2. Understanding the legal aspects of the work environment.
Module 3. Essential skills and disciplines.
Module 4. Evaluation and appraisal.
Assignment activity.
The majority of assignment activity must by its nature be undertaken after the programme has been completed.
A detailed assignment briefing will be provided.
Each participant will complete the following two items of their assignment during the course of the programme.
Detailed job description pertaining to current or most recently held employment.
Detailed personal curriculum vitae.
All other aspects of the assignment will be completed post course and presented in written format. This course is specifically tailored for those working in industry.

About First Polymer Training Skillnet
First Polymer Training (FPT) Skillnet operates as a training network for the Plastics Industry in Ireland and is funded under the government’s Skillnets initiative. The aim of FPT Skillnet is to deliver training that is focused on the specific needs of the plastics industry and includes certification and development.
Initiated by Plastics Ireland, FPT Skillnet’s objective is to provide technical training to polymer processors, both at our centre in Athlone and in-company as required. Our administrative and course centre is now located at 7 Centre Court, Blyry Business and Commercial Park, Athlone.
A full range of plastics processing equipment is available including Fanuc (100 tonne Electric), Krauss Maffei (100 tonne Hydraulic) and Demag (25 tonne Hydraulic) moulding machines. They are delighted to announce Arburg UK have replaced the ARBURG ALLROUNDER 320C 500 170 50 tonne machine with a new ARBURG ALLROUNDER 420C 1000 290 100 tonne golden Edition machine. This machine is equipped with the latest SELOGICA Direct touch screen control.
Having a full range of plastics processing equipment on site allows FPT to deliver intensive hands on training.
