Course details

Coaching & Physical Education 2 is a level 6 course designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop further the range of skills learnt at level 5 for a career in coaching, teaching, fitness and sports related fields. The course is practically orientated and has a strong element of practical coaching. Students also have the opportunity to get coaching badges from the relevant coaching bodies and a gym instructor's qualification, and a full swim teacher qualification. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Full QQI Level 5-FETAC Level 5 award or equivalent and an acceptable first year attendance record. 80%+. If coming from outside the 1st year coaching and exercise course an interview would be necessary.

COURSE CONTENT

The following subjects may be offered:

Sports Industry Practice

This provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence in the legislation, guidelines and practices relevant to a range of contexts in the sports industry.

Sports Nutrition

The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the concepts and principles underpinning nutrition, energy sources and energy usage within an active living, exercise, sports and or weight management context.

Sports Psychology

The aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of the key psychological factors that influence participation and performance in sport and exercise. Students will gain knowledge in the areas of imagery, anxiety, arousal, motivation and stress in sport and performance.

Lifeguarding

Depending on swimming ability, students may achieve the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). This is a worldwide-recognised lifesaving award, which is vital for student who see themselves travelling abroad in the future seeking employment during the summer months.
