IBM Tivoli Service Automation Manager enables the deployment of highly virtualized environments, critical for enabling cloud computing, based on Tivoli process automation engine, Tivoli Provisioning Manager, and Tivoli Service Request Manager. Tivoli Service Automation Manager deploys and manages IT environments across System x®, System p®, and Linux® on System z® platforms as managed from and managed to environments, including the deployment of IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents. This 4 day instructor-led workshop guides you through Tivoli Service Automation Manager. You perform hands-on exercises to configure Tivoli Provisioning Manager for Tivoli Service Automation Manager, run Tivoli Provisioning Manager discoveries, and enable Tivoli Service Automation Manager reports. You use the Tivoli Service Automation Manager self-service interface to provision, deprovision, and modify VMware projects, with monitoring, in a VMware ESX environment.

This intermediate level course is for system administrators and implementers involved in deploying IBM Cloud solutions.


  • Describe the architecture of Tivoli Service Automation Manager
  • Use the self-service interface to perform end-to-end virtual server deployment scenarios:
  • Activate and manage customers and their assigned resources
  • Manage users and teams
  • Manage access to service offerings
  • Discover and register images
  • Create, modify, and cancel projects with VMware virtual servers
  • Modify virtual servers
  • Back up and restore images
  • Deploy IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents
  • Install additional software on provisioned virtual servers
  • Create, discover, register, and use a new VMware template during provisioning
  • Access report data generated by Tivoli Service Automation Manager
  • View usage and accounting data


You should complete:

  • Foundation Technologies for Cloud Service Delivery 7.2.2 (TP310GB) or (8P310GB)

You should also have the following skills:

  • Working knowledge of VMware ESX 4.0 and VMware Virtiual Center Server
  • Working knowledge of Linux
  • Working knowledge of Tivoli process automation engine
  • Working knowledge of Tivoli Service Request Manager
  • Working knowledge of Tivoli Provisioning Manager

Optionally, you should have:

  • Working knowledge of IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2.2
  • Working knowledge of Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager 7.1.2
