Course details

This taught MEng is aimed at graduates of accredited Level 8 Civil Engineering programmes, who wish to develop their skills and expertise in the fields of Environmental and Energy Engineering. For applicants with a background in other disciplines, equivalent recognition may be given through the RPL process on an individual case-by-case basis to those who can demonstrate significant relevant professional experience in the discipline of Civil, Environmental or Energy Engineering.

Since 2012, Engineers Ireland require graduates to have an accredited Level 9 (Masters) qualification, or equivalent, to meet the educational standards required of a Chartered Engineer. It is intended that this programme will, in due course, be submitted to Engineers Ireland for accreditation.

Students who successfully complete 60 credits of the taught modules listed in semesters 1 & 2 and who do not wish to take the 30 credit Research Realisation module in Semester 3 will be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering (Environment and Energy).

The programme of study is designed to progress your qualifications in the following ways:

deepen the postgraduate student’s technical knowledge, skills and competences in the field of specialisation;

develop an ability to carry out in depth research in a chosen field of Engineering, to draw conclusions from the research and present research findings;

broaden knowledge in other areas such as Sustainability, Management, and Business. Additionally, the MEng in Structural Engineering programme will provide preparation for the Institute of Structural Engineers Professional Practice Examinations by developing structural analysis and design skills.

The programme content seeks to reflect current and likely future practice and trends in environmental and energy engineering analysis, design, and assessment.
