Course details
This subject aims to help students understand the early childhood educator's role in providing an environment for the care and safety of the children. Students will learn to manage areas of young children's nutrition, health, hygiene and safety. In addition, they will also learn to understand and detect child abuse and neglect, as well as be equipped with basic first aid skills.
Objectives
- Identify the interrelationships of safety, health, hygiene and nutrition and the ecological influence when managing children
- Describe the common illness and symptoms and the teacher's role in responding, promoting good health, hygiene and preventive measures
- Examine the procedures in managing child abuse and accidents including first aid and emergencies
- Critically evaluate the policies and practices in the environment and design an education programme that addresses safety, nutrition, health and hygiene in holistic manner.
