This unique collaboration between Setanta College and the University of South Wales provides a course that is designed, written and delivered by internationally renowned industry professionals, to specifically address the basic competencies identified as being required for employment in Strength and Conditioning. The blended learning option is ideal for people already actively involved in coaching or performing who wish to study alongside these activities.
Its aim is to produce applied practitioners who display the basic range of skills required for the competent delivery of strength and conditioning. Students graduating with the certificate will also have the opportunity to continue their studies to a full BSc in strength and conditioning through two further years of study.

Learning Outcomes
This programme aims to provide students with:
- Display a specialised knowledge of physical fitness and conditioning
- Exhibit a range of practical skills that are consistent with best practice in the area of physical fitness and conditioning
- Demonstrate competencies of understanding and awareness of their role in the context area of physical fitness and conditioning
- Formulate exercise and training programmes based on sound scientific principles
- Assist others to advance their understanding of their needs
- Identify the physical movement needs of the athlete, player involved in the pursuit of physical fitness and conditioning development
- Transfer and apply theoretical concepts and technical skills to a range of sporting contexts
- Take responsibility for the design, planning and implementation of a comprehensive variety of programme for their athletes, players or teams
- Learn to evaluate his or her own learning needs
- Display resourcefulness in structuring and implementing a physical fitness and conditioning programme
Entry Requirements
300 UCAS tariff points, eg, BBB at A-level. A-levels to include a grade-B in a Science subject or a grade-B in PE, and to exclude General Studies. Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics and English language.
For practicing strength and conditioning coaches, people engaged in professional sports as coaches or professional athletes, applications will be assessed on an inpidual basis taking into consideration your experience commensurate with the programme.
A satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure (no offences are considered spent) is part of the entry requirements for UK domiciled applicants.
Career Opportunities
Students will be prepared for employment as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, able to work with performers across a wide range of levels from beginners through to elite athletes. Additionally, students will be provided with the skills to perform effectively in a wide range of fitness related industries, such as personal training, health and wellness, gym instructing etc. Graduates will also be eligible to progress along the undergraduate pathway and complete their studies to degree level - BSc (Hons) in Strength and Conditioning.
Delivery Method
The course is delivered through a blended learning approach of online lectures, tutorials and seminars. Critical to the applied nature of the industry, the blended learning is supported by intensive weeks of practical application, which are held once every semester..
