The Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to work as a technical officer or laboratory technician in a range of science based industries.
You will gain hands-on experience, technical skills and scientific knowledge in microscopy, chemistry, microbiology, histology and tissue culture to start your career in science. In highly practical classes, you will prepare your chemicals, equipment and learn to use modern laboratory equipment as you undertake a wide range of analytical testing experiments. These skills and knowledge will prepare you either to work in a range of laboratory environments or for your pathway into future studies in science. With this course, you can articulate directly into final year of the Diploma of Laboratory Technology or undertake one of the three science degrees at Box Hill Institute.
For people currently employed in industry, you may select from units within this course or the Diploma of Laboratory Technology (subject to pre-requisite arrangements) to up-skill in particular areas important to your workplace.
What employment opportunities will I have?
This qualification may lead to employment as a laboratory technician or technical officer in science-based laboratories including pharmaceutical, pathology, microbiology and chemical testing industries.
What further study options will I have?
You may articulate directly into the final year of the Diploma of Laboratory Technology, or enroll in one of the three science degrees at Box Hill Institute: Associate Degree in Science, Bachelor of Science and Biotechnology, or Bachelor of Biosecurity Science.
If you are an inbound international student you may wish to apply a package offer with the Diploma of Laboratory Technology.
