Certificate IV in Information Technology

Course details

This course is designed to give you a broad experience in building information technology skills to work in a help desk environment, support program developers, or support network technicians in maintaining computer networks.

You will gain practical skills and experience in computer maintenance, operating systems, network maintenance, website development, database design, programming, and virtualisation and cloud computing.

In stage two of the course you will have the opportunity to decide whether you follow a networking and systems administration stream, or whether you follow a software programming and website development stream. Students choosing the networking and systems administration stream have an opportunity to complete dual qualificaitons in Certificate IV in Information Technology and Certificate IV in Computer Systems Technology. All students have the opportunity to undertake a workplace project aligned with the study stream of their choice, and to gain valuable workready skills in the Student Support Help Desk / IT Shop.

Students enrolling in the course can work towards gaining industry certification against Microsoft's MCP.

Students studying the Certificate IV in Information Technology at Box Hill Institute also have the opportunity to enrol and achieve a dual qualification, the Certificate IV in Computer Systems Technology. This second qualification can be studied simultaneously.

What further study options will I have?

You may wish to progress into the Diploma of Information Technology Systems Administration, Diploma of Software Development or the Diploma of Website Development at Box Hill Institute. Alternatively, you may wish to continue your studies in related Degree qualifications at alternative institutions such as Deakin University.
