Course details
This course is designed to give you advanced skills in managing computers and computer networks.
You will develop practical skills in computer maintenance, operating systems, network configuration and maintenance, interface design and internet working technologies.
You will learn how to develop complex testing and evaluation features and diagnose faults in advanced systems.
This course will also teach you how to communicate with business clients, manage simple projects and create technical documents. Industry standard vendor certification training towards Microsoft (MCP) and Cisco (CCNA) are also available as part of this course.
Entrance requirements
Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass, however relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.
English language proficiency
A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

What employment opportunities will I have?
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an inpidual to install and administer simple networks, servers, and client desktop deployments either as an independent information and communications technology (ICT) specialist or as part of a team.
Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

- network operations technician
- network technician
- network support technician
- level 1 help desk support
- desktop deployment technician.
Persons working at this level apply a wide range of knowledge and skills in basic networking, IT support, database development, programming and web development support; working safely and ethically in a sustainable work environment.
What further study options will I have?
You may wish to progress into the Diploma of Information Technology with a choice of up to five of the following streams. Networking, systems administration, database design, web development and software development. You may wish to continue your studies in networking by completing the Bachelor of Computer Systems with a major in Networking. Other streams can lead to study in a related bachelor degree at Deakin University.
