Course details

The programme is comprised of a number of modules & an integrated project which is team based, organised & managed using Project Oriented Problem Based learning methods (POPBL).

Course Content:

  • The course content will cover Java Fundamentals, Object Oriented Programming Fundamentals, Technology and Computer Network Fundamentals, Computer Architecture & Systems, Network Topologies, OSI & TCP/IP protocol models, Network Design, Connectivity & Addressing Scheme, Software Design & Testing, Object Oriented Analysis & Design, Testing Theory & Practice, Agile Development methodology, Scrum, Coding Styles and refactoring.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the fundamentals of software engineering as applied. On satisfactory completion of this programme participants may proceed to the Ericsson Masters in Applied Software Engineering.

Course Assessment:

  • Satisfactory completion of the programme will be measured by 3 exams – one for each module along with continuous assessments and an evaluation of the team project.

Course Requirements:

  • Candidates should ideally be graduates in computer science with a 2.1 or a cognate discipline with a high level of mathematics.

ACIST Skillnet provides subsidised training to private sector companies based mainly but not limited to the Mid-Theyst Region of Ireland. This Skillnets network was founded in 2006 and has trained over 5000 people in a range of disciplines but particularly focussing on the Tourism sector. They provide off the shelf courses to companies and also develop training specifically designed for business needs. Training is provided for all levels of employees.
