Course details
The course is one-year full-time and requires attendance at the College for four days per week. One day a week is spent in work placement. There is also a block work placement during the year.
The students' course work is continually assessed by means of assignments, projects and examinations. On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Certificate in Social Studies and the FETAC Health and Community Care award (Level 5).

Work Experience
The student work placement may be completed in organisations within the social sector, in the community, working with children, teenagers, older people and marginalised groups. There are lots of opportunities for interesting and challenging work and students are free to choose the type of placement that they would like to do.
Progression and Career Prospects
A significant number of students have progressed onto the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Care Practice within the College. Others have secured places on related courses in Universities and Colleges throughout the country. Some graduates have used the certificate to gain access to employment in the general area of social care.
