The Certificate in Science in Computing & Multimedia Level 6 programme provides a broad range of modules designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of graduates and also provide them with increased employment prospects in a wide range of areas.
It also provides the opportunity to progress to Higher Certificate in Science in Computing & Multimedia Level 6 or the BSc Degree in Science in Computing & Multimedia Level 7 programmes in this field.
Graduates will have the required skills and knowledge to work effectively within an organisation at entry level, to work as part of a team supporting software development projects, to produce multimedia content (such as graphics and audio), configure networks & systems and to configure & maintain hardware.
This course introduces learners to general multimedia systems; it shows them how to produce audio, video and 2-D animation content and how to publish that content to the web.
Assessment
A combination of module appropriate assessment procedures will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of this course. These methods will include a combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as assignments and projects.

Principal Areas of Study - 1 Academic Year
- Computer Architecture & Systems
This module teaches the fundamentals of computer architecture and systems in a modern PC. Students will also acquire the knowledge and skills required to upgrade maintain and install system components.
Mathematics for Computing
- This module introduces basic mathematical concepts necessary for developing algorithms and producing computer graphics.
Computer Programming Fundamentals
- This module introduces computer programming and develops fundamental skills such as editing, compiling and executing computer programs and constructing algorithms to solve problems.
Visual Communications
- This module teaches students visual communication skills such as storyboarding and gives students an appreciation of the history of visual images.
Web & Multimedia Technologies
- This module introduces students to general multimedia systems; it shows them how to produce audio, video and 2-D animation content and how to publish that content to the web.
Teamwork & Communications
- This module will enable students to communicate effectively using a range of skills and tools both individually and in groups. It will also teach the students how to operate effectively within teams.
Information Systems
- This module teaches students how about the management process and how to solve problems and manage information using a range of applications and tools.
