Course details

The Level 5 NVQ in Management is a cross-sector qualification. This means that this qualification will be taken by people who are responsible for the control of activities and work output of other managers across a wide variety of areas, including NHS trusts, educational institutions, government departments and theprivate sector. This qualification provides learners with the knowledge they'd need to work in a Management role. This qualification forms the knowledge based qualification aspect of the Apprenticeship Framework for Management at Level 5.Learners take three mandatory units aimed at developing a range of management skills.

• Key Principles of Management and Leadership
• Improving your own Management and Leadership Performance

Assessment ­ Optional Units

Students must select from the list of optional subjects to make up at least 6 credits. 

• Recruiting and selecting staff
• Appraising and develop staff
• Supporting organisational change initiatives
• Principles of budgets and financial information
• Principles of project management
• Developing working relationship with team members
• Health and safety risk assessment in your team
• Coaching skills in team leading and management
• Environmental and ethical issues in management
• Managing physical resources

Academic Progression

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to: 

• NCFE Diploma in Management (Level 7 NFQ)
• NCFE Diploma in Management (Level 8 NFQ)
• Foundation Degrees in Management or Business Management
