Course details
The objective of this programme is to equip the learner with the knowledge to efficiently develop and design interactive systems and applications. The learner will be able to produce high quality multimedia content with the development of digital media in products and services. The learner will have a knowledge and understanding of concepts in the areas of Web Design, Digital Multimedia, Introduction to Design, Interactive Design and Media, 3D graphics and Project Management. The program contains a variety of theory and applied learning to enable the student to learn a range of technologies used within the Multimedia industry.
About this Course
The programme learning outcomes are designed to incorporate transferable skills such as Team work, Problem Solving, Planning, Time Management, communication, Research, Decision Making and Presentation. In semester two of the programme, students will participate in a Project module where they will be required to develop, implement and design a multimedia application which would be suitable for eLearning. It is expected that engagement in these activities will provide students with a more complete overview of the stages involved in multimedia development and equip them with an industry ready application which they can use to promote and exemplify their development skills.
The Irish Government has designated 2015 the Year of Irish Design which presents an opportunity to promote and develop Ireland’s capabilities in business-related design across all sectors of the economy. The programme delivers creativity, design and innovation which is essential if the public sector is to be responsive to current service delivery needs.
The certificate is designed to produce a graduate which has such knowledge skills and competence. Students will be working with the following technologies: Adobe Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks and Blender and HTML5/JavaScript and CSS.
Who is the course for?
The programme is for students who have a desire for design and creativity. The programme will provide the necessary computer skills required to both design and develop interactive multimedia in today’s dynamic, digital media industry.
Award and Progression
The Certificate in Digital Multimedia is awarded by QQI at level 6 on the National Frameworks of Qualifications. The programme is designed to lay the ground work that would allow progression to the Adobe Certification (ACA).

Academic Entry Requirements
This course is designed to appeal to those at work or seeking to re-enter the workforce. There are no specific academic requirements with applicants considered based on relevant work and other experience. Applicants may be required to attend an interview as part of the application process. Applicants under 23 will be assessed based on Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
Course Assessment
The course will be assessed with a blend of project work, practical work and exams. This varies between modules. A number of modules are 100% assessment as it contains more practical work. Please note that in some instances exams may take place in the daytime.
