Course details

This qualification provides competencies to handle and use refrigerants while servicing self-contained refrigeration and air conditioning appliances following prescribed routines. You will learn how to problem solve and how deliver a service to customers.

You will learn about the regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants, how to use and work with drawings, diagrams, schedules, standard codes and specifications and how to identify occupational health and safety hazards and subsequently document them along with applying control measures.

Finding and rectifying faults in the various control systems and motors of equipment such as refrigeration and air conditioning will form part of your studies. You will also learn how to service small electrical appliances andpower tools as well as larger items like fridges, clothes washing machines, dryers to name a few.

What employment opportunities will I have?

You may find employment as an appliance service technician for a large or small service company.  Some may subsequently follow the path of owning your own business after obtaining the relevant licences.

What further study options will I have?

Successful completion of the apprenticeship program allows apprentices to obtain their restricted electrical licence from Energy Safe Victoria(ESV) and a refrigeration handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC).
