What is this course about?
This course gives the students a thorough knowledge of the major provisions of Bunreacht na hEireann 1937 and of their effect on other areas of law.
This course is an ECTS 10 credit module of the Law degree.
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the manner in which the Irish Constitution has shaped the Institutions and laws of our country;
- Critically assess and analyse the respective functions of the President, both houses of the Oireachtas as well as of the government and central administration;
- Assess and debate the effectiveness of the separations of powers doctrine of Irish Law and be able to critically assess and analyses the manner in which the Constitution interacts with both EU and International law;
- Demonstrate an in-depth and integrated understanding of the manner in which fundamental rights contained in the Irish Constitution have impacted upon and shaped Irish law and society.
What are the minimum entry requirements?
All applicants will be considered on a case-bycase basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
