What is this course about?
This course will provide students with a good knowledge of animal nutrition and welfare.
The course provides students with training in the sale, supply and safe handling of animal remedies in accordance with the Animal Remedies Legislation and teaches the skills needed to provide an appropriate animal healthcare service in a community pharmacy, vet shop or as a Responsible Person in a licensed premises.
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Describe and recommend veterinary medicines to deal with basic animal health queries;
- Understand and apply the requirements of the Animal Remedies Legislation to the pharmacy environment;
- Demonstrate competence in either a community pharmacy or vet shop or as a Responsible Person in a Licensed Retail Outlet;
- Advise appropriately, and where necessary to direct owner to seek veterinary assistance;
- Develop and maintain an animal health care service in either community pharmacy, a licensed retail outlet, vet shop or any where animal remedies are being supplied;
- Organise a structured approach for dealing with an inspection from the Dept of Agriculture, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and Health and Safety Authority.
What are the minimum entry requirements?
Applicants are required to hold a Level 6 Pharmacy Technician qualification or equivalent. All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
