Course details

The aim of the CCNSG Safety Passport Scheme is to ensure a basic knowledge of health and safety for all site personnel working in an industrial environment.  This will enable them, after appropriate site induction, to work on site as safely as possible with lower risk to themselves and others.

COURSE CONTENT

The course consists of the following four sessions that include presentations, exercises, videos and assessments:

Day 1 - AM Session: Safe Behaviour

  • Introduction;
  • A short history of the engineering/construction industry, including accident statistics;
  • Importance of productivity;
  • Legal framework and law  enforcement;
  • Safety problems and safe solutions;
  • Causal factors of incidents and accidents;
  • An explanation of "choice" of both action and behaviour;
  • Discipline - self, external and attitudes;
  • Consequences of poor safety

Day 1 - PM Session: Safe Systems

  • How work is controlled;
  • Employer and Employee responsibilities;
  • Explanation of hazard and risk and how to determine them, including exercises;
  • The risk matrix ALARP and the hierarchy of control;
  • Permit to work systems

Day 2 - AM Session: A Safe Place of Work

  • Fire safety; manual handling;
  • PUWER;
  • Noise;
  • HAVS;
  • Confined spaces;
  • COSHH

Day 2 - PM Session: Safety Problems and Safety Solutions

  • LOLER;
  • Asbestos;
  • Working at height;
  • Site transport;
  • Signage;
  • Excavations;
  • Electricity and isolation;
  • Environmental issues;
  • Accident reporting and RIDDOR

TARGET AUDIENCE

The course is appropriate for anyone working in an industrial environment from labourers to project managers.  There is an additional day for Supervisors, if required, which emphasises the key role that supervisors have in securing health and safety communications and risk assessments.

None required

CERTIFICATION

Delegates who successfully complete the multiple choice assessments will receive the CCNSG Passport card which is valid for three years

OTHER INFORMATION

The CCNSG Safety Passport Training Programme is monitored and controlled by a national steering group known as the Client/Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) who are there to ensure that standards are being maintained and that the content of the training programme continues to meet current safety legislation and current safety practices.  SMTS is a fully accredited provider of this course.
