Course details

Business English is a basic course designed for high-intermediate students of English as a second language who wish to improve their written and spoken business communication skills. The course focuses on level-appropriate grammar, introduces vocabulary specific to various business domains, and familiarizes students with the finer points of business etiquette and business correspondence.

Mission:

Help business (MBA) students feel comfortable with the English language used to participate in business courses and communication. Through a review of “real world” grammar, vocabulary, slang, writing and reading, students will be able to succeed in graduate level business studies while also gaining job-related skills. Students participate in various state-wide business competitions to foster teamwork and business acumen.

Objective

At the end of this course, students should be able to

• Handle informal and formal introductions.
• Describe work duties and job positions .
• Write a personnel profile.
• Speak appropriately on the phone, take messages, use general telephone language.
• Present a company – facilities, departments, strengths .
• Create projects and designs.
• Discuss history of a company and products .
• Techniques to Calm an Angry Customer.
• Editing for Agreement in Business Writing.
• Professional Telephone Etiquette.
• Various Idioms/Expressions/Vocabulary Related to Business and General Punctuation Review (Commas, Capital Letters, and other punctuation, as needed)

Admission Requirements:

• An original university bachelor’s degree certificate.
• Copy of Identification Card.
• Applicants should pass English test or equivalent.

Certification:

• Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
• Career Gates (Business English Intermediate Level).

Graduation Requirements:

• A participant has to score a minimum of 70% in the exam for each course.
• A minimum attendance of 80% has to be satisfied in each course.
