Course details

With strong calls from Early Childhood Ireland and others in the sector advocating for a 2nd free pre-school year for all children there will be an increased demand for qualified staff. Over 60,000 children are presently availing of this service with very encouraging outcomes for their readiness for primary school education. This course is particularly suited to mature students who wish to re-train, up skill or adapt previous life experience into providing care for children from age 3 – 6 years in difference ECCE Pre-School year services.

Course Requirements

Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview. Work experience in the area would be an advantage.

Persons entitled to, or dependants of persons entitled to, the following are deemed eligible for free tuition under BTEI funding:

  • a medical card;
  • an unemployment payment;
  • a means-tested welfare payment;
  • a Family Income Supplement Payment

Please note that continued welfare payment is subject to satisfying the conditions of the Department of Social Protection.

This integrated programme offers the opportunity to acquire a full QQI level 5 award in Childhood Care and Education (5M2009) over a planned two year timeframe.
