Course details
Beauty Therapy is a thriving profession. There are continuing developments in beauty products, beauty therapy equipment, practices and procedures. Levels of education and training are being upgraded in parallel with changing professional therapists' requirements.
Award
Successful completion of this course will result in a FETAC/QQI Level 5 Certificate in Beauty Therapy, 5M3471.
In addition to FETAC modules students are prepared for the following Diplomas from ITEC:
- ITEC Beauty Specialist
- ITEC Body Treatments (Started at Level 5 and completed in Level 6 (Unit 15 Figure Diagnosis and Body Electrical Treatments)
ITEC apply a rigid set of standards governing attendance, learning, and examinations.
Graduates who achieve ITEC qualifications can become overseas members of ITEC.
Examinations take place in April and May. Case studies are required for ITEC modules.

Anatomy & Physiology
This module is designed to equip learners with knowledge of the structure and function of the human body and to give a clear understanding of the interrelationship between the systems of the body.
Body Massage and Figure Analysis
This module encompasses all aspects of massage and body analysis. Students studying this module will be able to recognise postural deformities and figure faults in order to advise clients on the best treatments available for figure correction. It will also allow students to gain vast experience in Swedish massage techniques.
Skin Care, Eye Treatments and Make-up
This module aims to give students the skills and knowledge to carry out facials, all eye treatments and full makeup applications including false eyelash applications, to a professional standard.
Manicure, Pedicure & Waxing
In this module students will develop confidence in all aspects of manicure, pedicure, hot and cool waxing.
Communications
Students will learn a variety of communication skills including oral presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, discussion & negotiation skills, internet & e-mail skills as well as structured report writing, document preparation and non-verbal communication techniques.
Work Experience
Each student will develop their job seeking skills to secure work experience one day per week in a Beauty Salon. Students will be trained in CV preparation an interview skills, and will be required to research employment legislation as part of their assessments. They will also be required to undertake a career investigation in their vocational award area.
Beauty Industry Ethics and Practice
This module aims to assist learners to understand the importance of professionalism, ethics and good working relationships in the beauty industry, and to assist the learner to develop the academic and vocational language, literacy and numeracy skills related to beauty industry ethics and practice.
Retail Selling
This module hopes to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in retail selling in order to apply best practice to the sales process. Students will have numerous role play opportunities to facilitate them to gain a better understanding of the retail environment. Their work placement will also enhance their opportunity to copper fasten their knowledge and understanding of the world of retail selling.
Entry Requirements
A Leaving Certificate or equivalent is required, although exceptions are given to mature students who are over 23 years of age.
